Converse Run Star Motion

Posted on April 10, 2026 by Chip Canonigo Leave a Comment on Converse Run Star Motion

December 2024, Eastwood…

That’s when I first saw the Converse Run Star Motion CX Platform

My wife and I were walking around and I saw these shoes just sitting there in the display… and I immediately fell in love.

I picked it up.

I held it.

I turned it around and just stared at it like an idiot.

My wife looked at me and then looked at the shoe and started laughing.

It is a ridiculous looking shoe.

Like, absurdly ridiculous.

The platform is exaggerated.

The midsole has these wavy, sculptural lines.

The lugs on the bottom look like something from the future… or maybe from another planet.

It’s weird.

It’s bold.

It’s a lot.

And I loved it.

So What Exactly Is the Run Star Motion?

The Run Star Motion CX Platform is Converse’s way of saying, “forget everything you know about what a Chuck Taylor should look like.”

It takes the classic Converse DNA (iconic canvas upper, the star ankle patch, the Chuck 70 details like the stitching, the eyelets, the vintage inner tongue logo) and fuses all of that with a completely modern, future-forward platform sole.

Converse describes it as taking “the fluid lines you saw on court in the early 2000s” and channeling them through an ultra-modern midsole. The result is a shoe that looks like it belongs on a runway… or maybe on the feet of a character from a sci-fi movie.

It also evolved from the Run Star Hike, which was an earlier and still very popular platform silhouette from Converse.

The Motion version takes that energy and amplifies it.

The shoe is rated 4.8 out of 5 stars from over 460 reviews on the Converse website. People say it’s comfortable enough to wear on their feet all day.

One reviewer said it’s like standing on a Tempur-Pedic mattress.

Another said she wore it to a festival and her feet only hurt on the very last day, just a tiny bit.

That’s impressive for a fashion shoe.

My First Time Seeing It on a Real Person

I agreed with my wife that day at Eastwood that the shoe was weird.

Strange.

Bizarre even.

But I couldn’t stop holding it… imagining myself wearing it.

I probably would have bought it right then if not for that nagging feeling of how I would look if I wore it. I guess it was a good ting that they didn’t have one in my size in stock.

These days, I’m around 5’9″, 5’9.5″ maybe.

…I used to be 5’10” but I think I shrank a little.

Anyway…

I know that wearing these shoes would give me a very noticeable lift… like almost 2 inches of lift, according to the actual reviews.

Which sounds great in theory, but in the Philippines, people notice tall people and I’m afraid that they’ll look at my feet and realize that I’m only that tall because I was wearing platform shoes. I’m aftraid that they’ll think I  have fake height going on to overcompensate for something.

So I put the shoe back.

… and moved on.

I forgot them for a very long time.

But then… I saw them again.

I was at a blogging event for Jollibee’s Yumburger at Rizal Park here in Davao back in February when I saw a fellow Davao Blogger wearing the Run Star Motion.

She had them paired with flared pants and I thought it looked great.

The chunky platform peeking out under the flare of the pants, that silhouette… that’s something I could see myself wearing. Maybe if I lose a few more pounds… have a slimmer profile up top to make the flared pants look good…

And Now I Can’t Stop Thinking About Them

It started with me just browsing Nike’s website because I signed up for the PCGA Fun Run (check it out here) and I needed shoes.

After an hour or so I decided that I already had some decent running shoes.

So I started looking for casual shoes.

Cheaper ones.

Comfortable ones.

I started looking at Chucks because, I used to have a good enough sized collection of them back in the day.

And then one thing led to another… and here I am writing a whole article about the Run Star Motion.

I’m seriously thinking about getting them.

Like, seriously seriously.

They come in so many colors too.

There are seasonal colors, classic black and white, all-white… and yes, there are some more vibrant,

Pride-inspired colorways that honestly I kind of like.

The pink ones?

The ones with the rainbow energy?

They’re fun.

They’re expressive.

That’s the whole point of this shoe.

It’s not subtle.

It was never meant to be subtle.

…now,  if I get these… I’d want to get a pair for my wife too. I love matching shoes. Or at least complementary ones. I think there’s something really cute about couples wearing the same shoes or same brand and I’m open to that. We used to have matching Adidas Boosts back in the day when we were still dating.

But you know that old Filipino superstition, right?

Bawal daw mag-regalo ng sapatos sa girlfriend o asawa mo.

They say the person will use those shoes to run away from you.

Or leave you.

Literally.

I know it’s just superstition.

I know.

But also… my wife already laughed at these shoes. She thinks they are absurd. So if I present her with a pair of Run Star Motions… she might literally run away from me.

Out of the house.

Out of my life.

Using the very shoes I gifted her.

Maybe I should start with something more normal and work my way up.

A More Sensible Alternative: The Converse Wave Motion Trainer Low

Speaking of “more normal”… if you’re like me and you love the idea of a Converse that’s a little more modern but not quite as dramatic as the Run Star Motion, the Converse Wave Motion Trainer Low might be worth looking at.

The Wave Motion Trainer comes onto the scene with a modern design featuring next-level textile layering and a unique sculptural outsole. Converse It’s a low-cut trainer, so it’s lower profile. Less theatrical.

You won’t be gaining 2 inches of height. It’s the kind of shoe that says “I have taste” without screaming it across the room.

It’s listed on Converse PH and is a good option for someone who wants to step into more contemporary Converse territory without fully committing to the platform life.

For someone like me… that might be the safer first step.

Literally and figuratively.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Incredibly comfortable, rated 4.8/5 by hundreds of buyers
  • Classic Converse Chuck 70 details you already know and love
  • Adds approximately 2 inches of height
  • Bold, expressive design that stands out
  • Available in High Top and Low Top versions
  • Unisex sizing, great for couples who want to match
  • CX foam midsole and sockliner for all-day support

Cons:

  • Very polarizing design, not everyone will get it
  • The height boost is noticeable… maybe too noticeable if you’re already tall
  • People will look at your feet. A lot.
  • That old Filipino sapatos superstition if you’re buying it as a gift
  • Not ideal for actual running (it’s a fashion platform, not a performance shoe)
  • Can run slightly big, so check sizing before buying

If you’re someone who loves bold fashion, doesn’t care what people think, and wants a comfortable everyday shoe that turns heads… get the Run Star Motion.

Seriously.

The reviews don’t lie.

People wear these all day at work and at festivals and their feet are fine.

If you’re more conservative (like me, apparently) or just want to ease into the Converse trainer family, check out the Wave Motion Trainer Low first.

I’m also thinking about getting the Converse Run Star Motion CX Platform all black model simply because they’re kind of a more subtle thing and people won’t notice it as much I guess. They’ll probably think I’m just wearing some odd looking combat shoes.

But I bet my cousin is gonna have a good laugh the next time we see each other and I’m wearing it and I seem more eye level to him… we’ll see…
