Modofo H91 Mini Action Camera: My Honest Take After Using It at a Marathon, a Birthday, and for a Guitar Review

I bought the Modofo H91 during the 8.8 Shopee sale.

And the reason I got it was actually pretty specific… I received word from Leego.art that they were sending me a guitar for review, and I wanted a dedicated camera for that kind of content without spending a lot of money.

I ended up using it at two very different events aside ferm

First was Tita Lyn’s 80th birthday. Then I brought it to the Singlife Davao Marathon. Two completely different scenarios… an intimate family celebration and a full outdoor running event. That gave me a pretty good feel for what this tiny camera can and can’t do.

The Modofo H91 is a thumb-sized action camera priced around ₱2,200 to ₱2,900 on Shopee, depending on which bundle you choose. It fits in your palm, clips onto gear easily, and the whole idea is that you get a capable POV camera without the bulk and price of a GoPro or similar.

What I Actually Like About It

The 180-degree rotating lens is the standout feature.

You twist it and you go from forward-facing POV to selfie mode instantly.

No fumbling with settings.

No flipping the camera around.

Just twist and shoot.

For a vlogger who’s recording solo, that’s genuinely useful.

The 1.47-inch touch screen is small but it works well in keeping you in frame.

Real-time preview, settings changes, playback… all accessible by touch.

No confusing button combos to memorize.

Wi-Fi connectivity means I can transfer footage to my phone quickly and push it to social media without going through a laptop first.

For running events or birthday coverage where you want to post something on the same day… that speed matters.

At the marathon, I wore it on my gear and it handled the movement fine.

Footage was stable enough for casual social media content.

Not broadcast quality.

But for Facebook, TikTok, or a YouTube vlog… totally usable.

The waterproof case going down to 30 meters is a bonus I haven’t tested yet but it’s good to know that if I need a camera for beach trips or rainy outdoor events this little thing will do in a pinch.

Laggy, Heats Up and Confusing Orientation

Ok… here are the things you need to know about this camera: there’s a noticeable lag when taking still photos.

I noticed this at Tita Lyn’s birthday where moments moved fast and the shutter response couldn’t always keep up.

You press, you wait, then it captures. If you’re going for quick candid moments at a party or event… you’ll miss some shots.

This brings me to the conclusion that this camera is better for video than photography. Hopefully, once you learn to accept that, you won’t be as frustrated by it as I initially was.

I also have to mention that it also heats up over extended use.

Not dangerously, but enough to notice.

Although, the manual did say that it would do that so… buyer beware…

During longer recording sessions at the marathon, the body got warm.

Give it breaks if you’re doing continuous long-form footage.

And one last thing: the orientation is kinda confusing. If you want to take footage horizontally, you’d have to hold it up vertically and if you wanted vertical shots, it’d need to be horizontal.

Confusing and counter-intuitive.

I thought I was taking photos and videos the correct way but after checking the footage when I connected it to my phone, I saw that I had made a huge mistake.
